About Sara
When I was eight, a teacher put some stories I wrote in the back of the classroom on a shelf with other books--real books. That was when I became a writer. I became an editor not long after that because every writer needs a good editor and my mom was no good at spelling. In time, I learned there was more to editing than just language mechanics and conventions; I learned that an editor becomes a participator in magic. My first publication pushed me over the edge.
Despite the doubtful looks of many advisers, I pursued a degree in Creative and Professional Writing at Bemidji State University. “What kind of job do you get with that degree?” they asked. Honestly, I wasn’t thinking about a job, I was thinking about improving at something I loved. I worked in the Writing Resource Center (which catered mostly to academic writing) and wrote for the college paper and magazine. I critiqued and edited for countless classmates and friends. Until someone suggested I start freelance editing, I never thought to earn money through my passion for language.
In the years since I started working as an editor and writer, there are projects I loved and projects that educated me. There has never been a project not worth my time. I love the great variety I witness, but I’m particularly interested in working with authors of travel/adventure stories, any kind of fiction, and memoirs. From the day my pages landed among the real books, I knew where my heart was. I offer that passion to any author seeking a devoted and practiced editor.
